Hospice Support in Salem, Oregon
Comfort, dignity and familiar faces at home, working alongside your hospice team.
What hospice care looks like in a small home
Hospice focuses on comfort when a cure is no longer the goal. A resident can often stay in their adult foster home and receive hospice care there, so they do not have to move at a difficult time.
What families should know
Hospice is a choice
A doctor refers, and families choose a hospice agency. We work with the agency you choose.
Hospice adds to daily care
The hospice team visits and supports. Our caregivers are in the home around the clock.
Needs can change quickly
We stay in close contact with the hospice team and with family, and we call right away when something changes.
Questions to ask any home about hospice
- Do you work with hospice agencies, and which ones?
- Who provides care between hospice visits?
- How are pain and symptoms managed, and who do caregivers call at night?
- What if care needs increase?
- Can family stay or visit at any time?
- How do you support the family?
When a home may not be the right fit
Hospice can often be provided in the home as care needs grow. Every home has limits, though. If a resident’s needs go beyond what the home can safely provide, Oregon rules allow a move with written notice. We plan with the hospice team and the family early.
Common questions
Can my loved one receive hospice in an adult foster home?
Yes. Hospice can be provided wherever the person lives, including an adult foster home.
Who pays for hospice?
Hospice is commonly covered by Medicare or Medicaid for people who qualify, and the hospice agency can explain. Room and board are separate, and we can explain how they work with Medicaid or private pay.
Can someone move in while on hospice?
Often yes, depending on their needs. Talk with us and the hospice agency, and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.
Want to talk about your loved one’s needs?
Tell us about them and we will tell you honestly whether we are a fit.
